Detroit Lives Pt. 1
Detroit is a fascinating place. I've always heard that it's probably the grimiest city in the US. When i attended the Movement Festival (aka DEMF) annually from 2000-2005, I saw first hand what people were talking about.
Basically its a shithole. Beyond what you may envision though. Like.... Brownsville is a shithole yea, but Detroit as a whole is just on another level.
Widespread economic depression is visible on nearly every block. The downtown area is almost completely dead on any given day. But.....for one weekend every year, Detroit is the shit.
I'll let the video break down the cause of Detroit's demise, but from what I know, Detroit was supposed to be what NYC is now. The city was built around the blossoming auto industry, and meant for approx. 8 million inhabitants. We all know how GM turned out, and Detroit suffered dearly from it. Theres barely 1 million people living there currently, creating this eerily desolate city.
I'm sorry for the shitty youtube links, but the original video would not embed properly, but check this out. It's very interesting and touches on a lot of subjects, including the birth of techno music and how it rose from poverty and heartache.....like most great music.
